Alessandro’s Bamboo Bike Build

Released: 2nd October 2019

What made you decide to build a bamboo bike?

I wanted to create a connection between the bike and myself. Also, I wanted to challenge myself in doing something unusual and so unique

Did you enjoy building the bicycle from scratch and would you recommend the experience?

For DIY enthusiasts it’s the best experience, I would recommend it. I loved seeing the bike take shape over the course of its construction.

What did you find most difficult about your bike build? I consider myself a perfectionist so I spent ages sanding the lugs to make them look nice and smooth, that was the most tiring job.

What was the easiest part of the build? Spray painting the lugs was quite straightforward and satisfying as the bike started to get some colour.

How would you describe the ride of your finished bike? There is a subtle flexibility on the frame that you can notice whilst you ride, but it feels like riding a normal bike.

What would you improve about the build experience or your finished bike? I would take more care into setting up the frame. I had a few problems with the crankset arm chipping the bamboo off the chain stays and bottom bracket.
