Bjoern belt drive bamboo bike build

What made you decide to build a bamboo bike?
I was looking for a cx-style frame with horizontal drop outs, a decent tyre clearance – and that could also accommodate a belt drive and disk brakes… I realised that I’ll have to go down the custom built frame route – and that’s how I ended up looking at the bamboo option. Customisation, the fact I could build it myself (and learn a lot in the process) and that bamboo is a natural material made me sign up for the workshop.

Did you enjoy building the bicycle from scratch and would you recommend the experience?
Loved the entire experience and highly recommend it. It’s a bit like baking your own sourdough bread vs buying highly processed bread it in the supermarket 😉

What did you find most difficult about your bike build?
Getting that bloody tyre on the rim. And dealing with my anxiety that I might be doing something stupid which will lead to structural failure.

What was the easiest part of the build?
Sanding the joints.

How would you describe the ride of your finished bike?
Awesome. And very pleasing – very much like eating my own bread.

What would you improve about the build experience or your finished bike?
Going from building the frame to the finished bike might have been easier if I had done it in one go (one workshop) – but then I would have had to decide on components etc upfront – while it was really super-valuable getting your input on components while we were in the process of building the frame. Maybe a 2 day/2 day workshop with a 2-week break inbetween? also, would be good to have a couple of different belt drive length in stock (just kidding)
